Dr. Leonard Smith Endorses Colon Hydrotherapy

Board Certified Gastrointestinal Surgeon Dr. Leonard Smith Endorses Colon Hydrotherapy

Leonard Smith is a prominent general, gastrointestinal and vascular surgeon, as well as an expert on nutrition and natural supplementation.

For the past 25 years, Dr. Smith has studied countless holistic medical programs, including those focusing on nutrition, exercise, chelation, stress management and the relevance of mental and spiritual attitude with regard to healing. Acknowledging the effectiveness of whole organic foods and nutritional supplementation, Dr. Smith strives to stay on the cutting edge of research and keep pace with the latest advances in the field of functional nutrition.

As a surgeon, Dr. Smith has experienced firsthand the problems associated with poor digestion and the surgical procedures that are often necessary as a result. Dr. Smith believes educating others is an essential part of his role as a doctor and has always incorporated teaching the basics of healthy digestion to his patients.

In addition to maintaining a private practice in general surgery and nutritional medicine, Dr. Smith’s work with cancer patients has driven him to pursue the purest ingredients available when choosing a product for his patients. His interest in formulating innovative products that are natural, safe and effective is a direct result of his commitment to cutting-edge research in functional nutrition, as well as his own wealth of knowledge about the human body.

Dr. Smith has been a member of the teaching staff and the clinical staff at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he received both his medical degree and Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He has lectured at the university on the topics of surgery and complementary medicine.

Dr. Smith completed his general and vascular surgery residency at the University of Miami and served as a surgical instructor and co-director of the surgical intensive care unit for two years afterward. Also a retired captain in the United States Air Force Reserve, Dr. Smith resides currently in Gainesville, Florida with his wife Jane.

Thirty years ago, Leonard Smith, M.D., of Gainsville, Florida graduated from medical school and eventually became board certified in general surgery by the American College of Surgery. For more than 25 years Dr. Smith has practiced as a specialist in gastrointestinal surgery. He has dealt with all types of colon difficulties, including operations for colon cancer, colon diverticulitis, appendicitis, hemorrhoids, and numbers of other internal organ problems.

“I am very well acquainted with the colon’s functions, and my true belief is that colon hydrotherapy is the perfect cleansing medium for preparing the patient for colonoscopy. It’s a much better way of getting the human colon ready for an operation than having a patient swallow a gallon of that presurgery solution known as ‘Colon-Go-Lytely.’ Instead, colon hydrotherapy allows the patient to avoid this solution’s noxious side effects of vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and other troubles,” Dr. Smith says.

“Moreover, seriously ill patients tend to be chronically constipated which results in generalized toxemia. It turns out that colon hydrotherapy is the gentlest and most effective treatment for a constipation problem. My recommendation for cancer patients is that they should undergo frequent colon hydrotherapy procedures to make sure the colon’s toxic burden is being kept at a minimum while their bodies are trying to heal,” affirms Dr. Smith. “While not a substitute for eating a high fiber diet, those cancer patients who take colon hydrotherapy often experience the elimination of their aches and pains, improvement of appetite, and they tolerate a tough healing process better.

“I also believe that normally healthy people will find it valuable to take colon hydrotherapy every couple of months in order to experience how well one feels when the colon is truly empty. It’s a fact that most people fail to fully evacuate the colon, something they don’t realize. People undergoing colon hydrotherapy on a prevention basis, are quite surprised at how much waste is removed by the procedure,” Dr. Smith says.

“Without reservation, my wish is to see it become an established procedure for many kinds of gastrointestinal problems. If medical centers, hospitals, and clinics installed colon hydrotherapy departments, they would find such departments just as efficacious for patients as their present treatment areas which are devoted to physiotherapy,” states Leonard Smith, MD “Such is my belief, and I do endorse this therapeutic program.”

A Clean Colon Is The Key To Good Health

We all know, or at least should know, that the quality of food that you put into your body can greatly affect every part of your health. Good nutrition will help to rebuild and regenerate the cells that make up your very being.

Your body’s ability to effectively eliminate waste matter without it becoming fermented or putrefied inside your body relies on good nutrition. Without this ability, constant fermentation of waste matter will make the possibility of vibrant health impossible.

Very few people realize that the inability to eliminate waste from the body causes so much putrefaction in the colon that it is responsible for a large percentage of disease and sickness. It is vital that our colon is functioning properly in order to avoid the build up of toxic poisons that result from our failure to rid the body of feces and debris. It is every bit as important as proper digestion and assimilation of food.

The consumption of overcooked, fried, processed foods, sugar and refined carbohydrates makes the likelihood of efficient colon function all but impossible, even if you are having two to three bowel movements per day.

These foods cause starvation of the colon. Healthy foods nourish the cells, muscles, nerves and tissues of the colon. A starved colon may still appear to allow fecal matter through, but it can’t extract, digest, and nourish the way it is supposed to.

The colon is your body’s sewer system, it is also a breeding ground for bacteria. There are friendly and non-friendly bacteria. Friendly bacteria will control and prevent toxicity from developing in the colon. Non-friendly bacteria will promote and produce disease.

In a clean and healthy colon, the friendly bacteria will control the non-friendly. However, in a colon where fermentation and putrefaction is present, the non-friendly bacteria will overpower the friendly and sickness will be the result.

If your colon is clogged with waste and debris, even the healthiest of diets won’t have the desired affect that you’re hoping for. Not only that, but the fermentation of waste matter will result in a build up of toxic gases in the colon that will bloat your tummy and all of the crunches and abdominal work in the world won’t flatten that out.

One of the most important ways to restore colon health is colon hydrotherapy. When administered by a highly trained professional, it is a tremendously effective therapy. Don’t think that one or two treatments are enough. Most people will require a series of treatments that should be repeated annually. Another hugely beneficial thing that you should do daily is fresh, live juicing.

That means investing in a high quality juicer and consuming at least one large glass of vegetable juice per day. But without a doubt, the most important thing that you can do is for your colon is never suppress the urge to eliminate.

I don’t care where you are or when it is, if your body tells you it’s time to go, then you go. If you constantly ignore your body’s signal to eliminate, you can in as little as three weeks program your nervous system to stop sending you that message.

I know it’s not a topic that we often discuss, but the results of ignoring the health of your colon can be devastating.

Visceral Manipulation

The Therapeutic Value of Visceral Manipulation

The visceral system relies on the interconnected synchronicity between the motions of all the organs and structures of the body. At optimal health, this harmonious relationship remains stable despite the body's endless varieties of motion. But when one organ cannot move in harmony with its viscera due to abnormal tone, adhesions or displacement, it works against the body's other organs and muscular, membranous, fascial and osseous structures. This disharmony creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body is forced to move around. And that chronic irritation, in turn, paves the way for postural distortion, neuromuscular dysfunction, and disease processes.

Imagine an adhesion around the lungs. It would create a modified axis that demands abnormal accommodations from nearby body structures. For example, the adhesion could alter rib motion, which could then create imbalanced forces on the vertebral column and, with time, possibly develop a dysfunctional relationship with other structures. This scenario highlights just one of hundreds of possible ramifications of a small dysfunction - magnified by thousands of repetitions each day.

Thanks to the dedicated work of Jean-Pierre Barral, a Physiotherapist (RPT) and Osteopath (DO), healthcare practitioners today can use the rhythmic motions of the visceral system as important therapeutic tools.

Barral's clinical work with the viscera led to his development of a form of manual therapy that focuses on the internal organs, their environment and the potential influence on many structural and physiological dysfunctions. The term he coined for this therapy was Visceral Manipulation.

Visceral Manipulation relies on the palpation of normal and abnormal forces within the body. By using specific techniques, therapists can evaluate how abnormal forces interplay, overlap and affect the normal body forces at work. The goal is to help the body's normal forces remove abnormal effects,
whatever their sources. Those effects can be global, encompassing many areas of bodily function.

How Does Visceral Manipulation Help You?

Visceral Manipulation is used to locate and solve problems throughout the body. It encourages your own natural mechanisms to improve the functioning of your organs, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance mobility of the musculoskeletal system through the connective tissue attachments, and influence general metabolism. Today, a wide variety of healthcare professionals perform Visceral Manipulation.

How is Visceral Manipulation Performed?
Visceral Manipulation is based on the specific placement of soft manual forces to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues. These gentle manipulations can potentially improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.

Harmony and health exist when motion is free and excursion is full - when motion is not labored, overexcited, depressed, or conflicting with neighboring structures and their mobility. Therapists using Visceral Manipulation assess the dynamic functional actions as well as the somatic structures that perform individual activities. They also evaluate the quality of the somatic structures and their functions in relation to an overall harmonious pattern, with motion serving as the gauge for determining quality.
Due to the delicate and often highly reactive nature of the visceral tissues, gentle force precisely directed reaps the greatest results. As with other methods of manipulation that affect the body deeply, Visceral Manipulation works only to assist the forces already at work. Because of that, trained therapists can be sure of benefiting the body rather than adding further injury or disorganization.

How Did Visceral Manipulation Begin?
Jean-Pierre Barral first became interested in biomechanics while working as a registered physical therapist of the Lung Disease Hospital in Grenoble, France. That's where he met Dr. Arnaud, a recognized specialist in lung diseases and a master of cadaver dissection. Working with Dr. Arnaud, Barral followed patterns of stress in the tissues of cadavers and studied biomechanics in living subjects. This introduced him to the visceral system, its potential to promote lines of tension within the body, and the notion that tissues have memory. All this was fundamental to his development of Visceral Manipulation. In 1974, Barral earned his diploma in osteopathic medicine from the European School of Osteopathy in Maidstone, England. Working primarily with articular and structural manipulation, he began forming the basis for Visceral Manipulation during an unusual session with a patient he'd been treating with spinal manipulations.
During the preliminary examination, Barral was surprised to find appreciable movement. The patient confirmed that he felt relief from his back pain after going to an "old man who pushed something in his abdomen."

This incident piqued Barral's interest in the relationship between the viscera and the spine. That's when he began exploring stomach manipulations with several patients, with successful results gradually leading him to develop Visceral Manipulation. Between 1975 and 1982, Barral taught spinal biomechanics at England's European School of Osteopathy. In collaboration with Dr. Jean-Paul Mathieu and Dr. Pierre Mercier, he published Articular Vertebrae Diagnosis.
Jean-Pierre Barral began teaching Visceral Manipulation in the United States in 1985. Since then he has trained a team of International Teachers that teach Visceral Manipulation seminars around the world. He has also authored numerous textbooks for healthcare professionals, including: Visceral Manipulation, Visceral Manipulation II, Urogenital Manipulation, The Thorax, Manual Thermal Evaluation, as well as Trauma: An Osteopathic Approach, Manual Therapy for the Peripheral Nerves, and Manual Therapy for the Cranial Nerves (the latter three were co-authored with Alain Croibier, D.O.). Jean-Pierre Barral has also authored a book for the general public, Understanding the Messages of Your Body, which discusses the link between our organs and our emotions.

Body Building
By: Louis Dorman

That was the question on my mind when I was told about this little secret. I was having dinner with Chris Slatt who is a long jumper. He explained that many other athletes use this type of "treatment". I also heard that many pro bodybuilders do this - One of the reasons is because they eat a lot of steak.
Anyways, I decided to make an appointment with a local place in Arizona and see what was so special about it.

When I first got there I read a pamphlet about all the benefits and how the "procedure" was done. I was asked to empty my bladder before the session began.
Then to go to a private room with a bed, comfortable music and a machine that looked like it came from a submarine. The therapist came in and explained the treatment and answered my many questions.
The therapist showed me a new plastic disposable speculum kit in its sealed bag - this was to ensure it has never been used. As I lied comfortably on the bed she began the colonic.
A colonic session uses anywhere from 25 to 35 gallons of water. This water is slowly entered into the colon in a session lasting up to 45 minutes. The colon size is approximately one gallon in volume. This of course can vary depending on the size and condition of your colon.
A Healthy Colon Is A Happy Colon!

Many years of poor eating, stress, very little exercise, illnesses, drinking, pill popping, indigestion, constipation, the use of laxatives - It's all very hard on the colon.
When this becomes too much for your colon to handle, it will no longer function like it's suppose to. Undigested food and body wastes accumulate, harden and become fixed into the walls of your colon further threatening complete elimination from the body.
Wondering Where Those Extra Pounds Came From?
Over time, accumulated fecal matter causes the colon to become distorted in shape as anywhere from 4 to 40 pounds of fecal matter can add up.

This puts an unwanted/unneeded strain on the surrounding organs, the nervous system and even inhibits with the absorption of essential nutrients your body needs from the colon.

Am I Toxic?

Unfortunately, we take much better care of our outward body, which includes our face and hair and do not think much about what is going on inside our body. When the daily strictness and diets of modern life surround us, the colon or large intestine becomes the repository of accumulated toxins - which may disable the body's purification system.
The useless material ends up reentering our body's blood stream, getting deposited in our cells instead of passing on its way. As a result - we feel and perform far below our potential.

A few of the symptoms of an impacted colon can make us feel sluggish, bloated and cause headaches, foggy thinking.

Once the impacted fecal waste is removed, your colon can begin again to cooperate as it's suppose to. In this very real sense a colonic is a "rejuvenation treatment."

Colon Hydrotherapy stimulates reflex points. Every system and organ of the body is connected to the colon by reflex points. A colonic irrigation stimulates these points, thereby affecting the corresponding body parts in a beneficial way.
Why Not Use Enemas, Suppositories Or A Laxative To Cleanse The Colon?

Enemas are useful for emptying the rectum, which are the lowest 8 to 12 inches of the colon. Usually, one or two quarts of water are used to do that.
Suppositories are intended to accomplish the same results.
Laxatives, particularly herbal laxatives are formulated for various results such as, relief of temporary constipation and to build up the tone of the colon muscle.

However, the best way to cleanse the colon without any question is by performing Colon Hydrotherapy.

What Can Cause Constipation?
Particularly, it is from not drinking enough water. Drinking soda, alcohol or coffee is all dehydrating to the body. Not eating enough veggies and fruit that contain the fiber you need to stimulate the digestive tract.

Not chewing food properly, and/or poor food combinations. Constipation is very uncomfortable, it can cause you to bloat, and have a distended abdomen. Constipation can also cause you to strain which causes hemorrhoids.
15 Reasons For Colonic Therapy

Some people don't have any noticeable bowel trouble, but are afraid of the many diseases of the colon. Others may feel that their diet may be poor, and they just want to keep their colon clean or some just enjoy colonic therapy every now and again.

When diet, stress, drugs, chemicals, and other substance irritate the colon, it tries to protect itself by producing more mucus. This additional mucus can bind with the sludge from refined foods and leave behind accumulated residue on the colon - even if you are having regular bowel movements.

-Bloated abdomen
-Inability to lose weight
-Irritable bowel syndrome
-Lower back pain
-Not feeling well
-Physician recommended
-Poor attention span
-Sluggish bowel
-Skin conditions

Colon Hydrotherapy can be most beneficial in helping to restore good health by:

-Allowing clearer passage of nutrients into the blood.
-Clearing the colon of old, hardened, waste material and harmful toxins.
-Increasing prevention of toxic absorption through healthy mucosa.
-Promoting a return of normal and regular bowel movements.
-Providing a favorable environment for bacteria and microflora for digestion.
-Restoring proper pH balance to the body
-Strengthening peristaltic (natural muscular contraction) activity in the colon.
