Sizzling Days Of Summer Smoothies

Are you quenching your summer thirst with flavorful, mouth exploding fruit concoctions from juice bars? It sounds like a delightfully healthy alternative or does it? Red flag alert!

You may be adding some unnecessary inches to your waistline this summer. That's right - some of these delicious smoothies may have as much as 950 calories with 30 grams of fat. Your daily calorie allowance just flew out the window. Be wary when you see ingredients such as: ice cream, whole milk, heavy cream, chocolate, syrups, fruit nectar and coconut cream.

Smoothies don't have to be sinful but they can be creamy, rich, and luscious! A healthy smoothie may have less than 100 calories. They can provide calcium, magnesium, folic acid, vitamins, beta carotene and vitamin C, depending on fruit selection. Select nonfat milk, yogurt, soy, pure unsweetened organic fruit juice or my personal favorite, unsweetened almond milk for a smooth and creamy texture.

Smoothies contain a fine amount of fiber and a good source of protein if they contain yogurt, milk, soy, spirulina or a superior quality whey protein powder.
It is estimated that up to 75% of the world’s population is lactose intolerant to some extent. Another particularly insidious hidden allergen is soy. The following recommendations are suitable for those with common food allergies and for individuals who follow a vegan and gluten free dietary lifestyle.

Some healthy alternatives for milk, soy, and whey protein powder include: Rice Dream a light refreshing non-dairy beverage enriched with vitamins A, D & B12. It has the same calcium as milk and is low fat and all natural! Unsweetened almond milk has half the calories of milk and contains 30% of the daily calcium value per serving. This non-dairy beverage has a creamy smooth texture and a hint of almond taste that makes it outstanding.

Hempseed a perfect protein and especially high in the most needed minerals; calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sulfur. This high quality plant protein also contains many essential vitamins. Another easily digestible protein is a (non-GMO) whole grain brown rice. It provides an extensive array of naturally occurring amino acids. Chlorella a single-celled green algae is rich in Vit A,C,E and one of nature's true superfoods and a nutrition powerhouse. Chlorella contains significant amounts of vegetable protein, beta carotene and chlorophyll, also known for its purifying, cleansing and detoxifying properties.

Various smoothie recipes have specific health benefits which include detoxifying, powerful energy and immunity-boosters.

Healthy Extras:

Tahini – Tahini is a paste that is made by finely grinding sesame seeds. It is claimed to be an excellent source of calcium unlilke othr dairy products. It is also high in minerals such as magnesium, potassium, iron, and phosphorus. This creamy paste adds a unique flavor and nutrient content to any smoothie.

Pumpkin seeds – Contain most of the B vitamins, along with C, D, E and K. They also have the minerals, calcium, potassium and phosphorous. Some benefits include prostate and bladder health, anti-inflammatory, treatment of parasites and prevention of osteoporosis because of high zinc. This nutty crisp-chewy texture is a lovely addition to any smoothie.

Flaxseeds – This tiny powerful seed is high in Omega 3 oil and has numerous benefits. Some benefits include: improve bowel function, lower blood cholesterol levels, lower high blood pressure, increase energy, vitality and stamina, positive impact on weight management. Flaxseed protect against cancers, particularly hormone sensitive cancers such as breast and prostate. A definite must for any smoothie.

Wheatgerm - Wheatgerm contains phytosterols which have been shown to lower cholesterol and promote heart health. In addition, wheat germ contains high amounts of vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect the body from damaging free radicals. Wheat germ is a good source of B vitamins, calcium, fiber, iron, magnesium, omega 3, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, selenium, vit E, zinc, fiber. No germs here, just lots of antioxidants!

Spirulina - contains high amounts of protein, essential amino acids, essential fatty acids and vitamins and minerals. Especially rich in cleansing chlorophyll. In short, the nutritional benefits of spirulina are definitely high.

I raise my glass "To your health!"

Rheumatologist Arthur E. Brawer, MD

Conditions Responding to Colon Hydrotherapy Cited by Rheumatologist Arthur E. Brawer, MD

“Colon hydrotherapy eliminates from the bowel the accumulated waste material which may get absorbed. If this absorption takes place, it overwhelms the other purification organs such as the liver, the kidneys, the skin, and the lungs. The toxin deposition which becomes lodged throughout the body’s tissues and cells becomes capable of triggering a variety of illnesses,” says rheumatologist Dr. Arthur E. Brawer. “There’s lots of them.” Some disease indications for colon hydrotherapy are:

Allergies Arthritis Asthma
Acne Attention Deficit Disorder
Memory Lapses Hypertension Body Odor
Brittle Hair Brittle Nails Chronic Fatigue
Cold Hands & Feet Colitis Spastic Colon
Constipation Fibromyalgia Headaches
Irritable Bowel Mouth Sores Multiple Sclerosis
Nausea Peripheral Neuropathies Peptic Ulcer
Pot Belly Poor Posture Seizures
Muscle Pain Joint Aches Chest Pain
Skin Rashes Toxic Environmental Exposure
Pigmentation Toxic Occupational Exposure

Colon Hydrotherapy verified by Dr. Janet Beaty, N.D

Janet Beaty, N.D., Took Training in Colon Hydrotherapy
“My original training in colon hydrotherapy was
when I administered it twenty-five years ago as part of my
massage therapy program and that training went a lot deeper
when I attended Bastyre University. I was one of several
Instructors in colon hydrotherapy at that naturopathic
College,” says Janet Beaty, ND, whose practice is in West
Concord, Massachusetts. “Now I don’t own the physical
facilities for doing it in my office but I regularly refer patients
to a competent nearby colon hydrotherapist.

“My experience with the treatment is totally positive. I refer
people to have it when they are constipated because
their colons are not fully emptying and bringing on GI
discomforts of some kind. My sense is that the patient must
empty out old waste products so that there is no interference
with healing modalities,” states Dr. Beaty. “I am using colon
hydrotherapy as my beginning treatment for detoxification,
particularly for patients with congested bowels. While I focus
on the gastrointestinal aspects of colon hydrotherapy, I also
prescribe it for the treatment of allergies, arthritis, and other
health difficulties.

“If I had my druthers, I would get all of the patients with
any health problems on colon hydrotherapy.  Why I don't
is because it entails the payment of cash-out-of-pocket and
some people find the concept too ‘kinky’ even to imagine
doing it,” Dr. Beaty says. “Yet, probably most patients should
receive at least one colon hydrotherapy during the course of
taking care of themselves. It is a very helpful tool for nearly
any patient in order to get the bowel peristalsis to work. A
effective technique for stimulating such peristalsis is to start
out with giving colon hydrotherapy using warm water and
gradually decreasing the water temperature as treatment
continues. This lower temperature tends to stimulate the
bowel muscles. The cold temperatures cause good peristaltic
action for a retraining of the bowel.

“The ideal treatment program I follow is that from
four to eight weeks the patient receives colon hydrotherapy.
This time frame is necessary for unloading a bunch of toxins
from the liver. Here is a typical case history: a thirty-sixyear-
old patient, Mrs. Cynthia Mangie, had experienced
several ectopic pregnancies which resulted in her having a
number of miscarriages and ending with chronic
endometriosis. Also, she had her belly sliced into many times.

Her caesarian pregnancies left her with too much scar tissue
so that now the endometriosis must be managed without
further surgery,” says Dr. Janet Beaty. “The solution to my
patient’s problem of endometrial pain is to take a colon
hydrotherapy one week before her period. The pain is then
reduced markedly because her usual premenstrual
constipation is prevented. With the bowel clean, Mrs. Mangie
has more room in her belly. She currently takes colon
hydrotherapy routinely for improving the quality of her life.”

Colon Hydrotherapy Reduces Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Joshua Heinermann, the sixty-six-year-old chief executive officer for Virginia Chemicals Corporation of Chesapeake, Virginia, had been suffering severely from prostate gland enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). For four years the man’s symptoms had been building steadily, and now they were affecting his ability to manage in the administrative position he held. The executive’s nighttime urinary urgency (nocturia) came with such frequency, Mr. Heinermann found himself perpetually fatigued during daytime business meetings. His need to sleep lay on him like a blanket, and he felt as if his mind was encased in cotton batting. Any capability for him to make vital decisions on behalf of his corporation became almost nonexistant. To confront the problem, the CEO finally consulted a urologist located in his city.

In practice for over sixty years as a specialist in solving urological problems for both men and women, Emil S. Sayegh, MD, of Chesapeake, Virginia is eighty-eight years of age. Over the six decades of his medical practice, Dr. Sayegh has been consulted by a particularly large number of male clientele who have sought his help in correcting BPH and prostatitis.

“These two common medical difficulties are closely associated with having weak abdominal muscles,” explains the board certified urologist. “Those men possessing flaccid and weak abdominal muscles experience enormous pressures on their bladders which never let up. The supportive muscles and other erectile tissues surrounding the bladder fail to do the jobs required. The pressure of the bladder’s rectal sigmoid is so severe that any amount of stool in that area is going to make urine passage very difficult. Whether urine is present or not, the need for these men to void becomes overwhelming.”

During the past fifteen years Dr. Sayegh has made use of colon hydrotherapy which solves his patients’ two particular prostate pathologies almost every time. “Cleansing the colon markedly assists the functioning of the pathological male bladder and prostate organs. Colon hydrotherapy given to involved men at two-week intervals for three times to start
and then maintained every four weeks for an unlimited period does solve prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia,” states Emil S. Sayegh, MD. “From my files, I can offer up several hundred case studies which testify to that fact.”

Colon hydrotherapy for allergies is a procedure that removes toxins from the bowels and stimulates the body’s immune system to fight off allergies in a natural way. Conventional medicine uses antihistamines and steroids to relieve the symptoms of allergies, but does nothing to remove the underlying cause of the body’s allergic reactions. Since allergies are affected by a faulty immune system, boosting the immune response is one approach that can be used to prevent allergic reactions. Colon hydrotherapy cleans the body’s internal system, boosts the immune system, removes toxins, and brings the body into balance.

How Does Colon Hydrotherapy Help Allergies?

Toxins from nutrient-deficient fast food and junk food, environmental pollution and petrochemicals, pharmaceutical intake, and perfumed personal care products collect in our body. Add to that a lethargic lifestyle, lack of exercise, and increased stress from a fast-paced world, and our bodily functions slow down and perform poorly.

When this happens to our digestive system, our colon backs up. Our intestines retain that toxic sludge and cannot process nutrients. This is detrimental to the healthy balance in our bodies and leads to a number of ailments, such as allergies, skin problems such as acne, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Why Use Colon Hydrotherapy for Allergies?

Allergies, especially in children, are on the rise. Some say as many as a fifth or even a third of the population have allergies. Also rising are the rates of constipation, bowel cancer, and colon cancer. Improper bowel activity is a root cause for these maladies.

For a healthy adult, food should spend no longer than 24 hours in the body before passing gently through the system. For an overweight or lethargic person, or one who indulges in non-nutritious food, that time can be an unhealthy 60 hours. Food and toxins remain in the body longer, decaying, fermenting, and putrefying, thus allowing more time for toxins to be absorbed by the body. Some reports say that pockets in the intestines can trap food and toxins for decades. This decaying material injures the walls of the intestines and damages nerves, glands, tissues, and cells.

The purpose of the intestinal system is to absorb nutrients from food and distribute them through the blood supply to the rest of the body. But when the intestines are clogged and the blood is tainted by toxins, the body suffers. The immune system is threatened and the body becomes susceptible to food allergies and food sensitivies. The aim is to remove the cause of the blockage, cleanse the colon of all impedance, and restore the immune system so the body can heal itself. Colon hydrotherapy eliminates toxins, rebuilds and strengthens the intestines, and balances the body’s restorative systems.

The Relationship between the Colon and Allergies

When the body succumbs to the toxic effects of allergens, it wants to expel the toxins by producing body fluids, such as through sneezes, watery eyes and noses, urine, and feces. The colon plays a role in this expulsion. But if it is clogged and impacted and not fully functional, allergy symptoms can intensify and affect the rest of body.

Allergies themselves can cause the colon to be impeded. Sometimes a food allergic reaction will cause food to accumulate in the colon and result in constipation. The food is trapped and ferments, releasing toxins that the colon absorbs into the bloodstream. The allergic reaction is exacerbated and the body becomes woefully imbalanced.

What Is Colon Hydrotherapy?

A natural procedure that doesn’t use drugs or chemicals, colon hydrotherapy uses warm, filtered water to gently flush the large intestines of waste. The lower abdomen is gently massaged to help loosen internal material for easy evacuation. Practitioners of colon hydrotherapy aim to make the procedure discrete, relaxing, and comfortable.

By stimulating the body’s natural peristalsis, the procedure hydrates and cleanses the bowel, detoxifies the body, and strengthens the immune system. All of this puts the body’s natural processes and defenses into balance. When the body functions properly, you feel energized and healthy.

After only a few colonics, patients report improvements in their overall health. In addition to relieving allergies, colon hydrotherapy, by improving the immune system, relieves such health conditions as constipation, skin conditions such as acne, asthma, flatulence, irritable bowel, rheumatism, menstrual problems, and even emotional issues such as depression and anxiety.

What Are Allergies?

Allergies are an abnormal reaction of the immune system to specific substances. Allergies derive from a variety of sources, including food, such as the proteins in wheat, dairy, or peanuts; environmental and chemical, such as latex and perfumes; alcohol; plants, such as pollen, mold, and poison ivy; and animal sources, such as venom from bees or dander from pets. Symptoms include itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing, asthma, rashes and hives, and headache.

To relieve allergies, first try to locate the allergen causing the reaction. Look to diet, such as specific foods, food additives and preservatives. Also see if chemical pollutants, cigarette smoke, pollen, dust, or other irritants are affecting you. Many allergies are genetic. The key to fighting off allergens and reducing symptoms of discomfort is a strong immune system.

Colon Hydrotherapy For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Colonics (Colon Hydrotherapy) for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complex illness that afflicts between 1 and 4 million Americans. The condition is extremely debilitating and there is no cure, therefore patients can only seek to alleviate their symptoms.

In this quest, some have turned to alternative medicine therapies, including colonics, also known as colon hydrotherapy, colonic irrigation, or high colonic. Although there is little scientific evidence to suggest that this is an effective treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome, anecdotal evidence by its proponents suggests that it may be a viable approach for some patients.

Why Use Colon Hydrotherapy for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Chronic fatigue syndrome patients who have not had success with traditional medical treatments, or who are looking for a natural, alternative approach to medications and other medical treatment may want to try colon hydrotherapy.

Ordinarily, colonics are recommended for patients suffering from digestive problems such as gas, bloating, cramps, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Colonic irrigation can help alleviate these problems by flushing toxins from the lower gastrointestinal tract, thereby improving the overall function of the bowel. A properly functioning bowel can help the body better absorb nutrients from food and prevent vitamin deficiencies.

A person with chronic fatigue syndrome may suffer from vitamin deficiencies, so enabling the body to better absorb nutrients might alleviate some of the symptoms of CFS. Proponents of colon hydrotherapy also note that there are many mental benefits from the process. By cleansing the body of wastes, alternative practitioners say, one also cleanses the mind. Since chronic fatigue syndrome is a stressful condition that can sometimes lead to depression, the reported mental benefit from colonics is an advantage of the therapy.

Several sessions of colon hydrotherapy may be required before a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome experiences an improvement in symptoms. This is because material in the colon builds up over time.
What Causes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Unfortunately, even after decades of researching, the cause of chronic fatigue syndrome—also known as chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome, myalgic encephalomyelitis and post viral fatigue syndrome—is unknown. Current theories suggest that a virus may be responsible.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is difficult to diagnose, because its main symptom—a debilitating level of fatigue that does not improve with bed rest—is a factor in other illnesses, and no specific diagnostic test is available. Generally, a patient must have both chronic fatigue and a number of other serious symptoms before being diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome.

What Is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy is a practice that may date back to ancient times, and which has gained popularity in recent decades. The process is similar to a traditional enema in that it flushes wastes from the colon, the large intestinal tube directly connected to the rectum. It differs from an enema, however, in two distinct ways. First, while enemas are typically self-administered at home, colonics are performed by a professional in a specialized clinic. Second, enemas use a limited amount of water, while colonics use a device to control water flow and completely fill the colon with water, so that more waste matter can be flushed out.

Proponents say that colon hydrotherapy is often necessary to help cleanse the body by removing undigested food that can sit in the colon for years, blocking the normal elimination of waste matter, and turning toxic. Some alternative practitioners believe that having such an unhealthy colon can lead to a host of conditions, including chronic fatigue syndrome, and that flushing the toxic substances can help alleviate these illnesses. The medical establishment as a whole, however, does not support these claims.

What Happens at a Colon Hydrotherapy Session?

Patients may be nervous at their first colon hydrotherapy session, and often have concerns about sanitation and privacy. As with similar outpatient medical procedures, such as colonoscopies, every effort is made to ensure that the patient feels comfortable.

Although the process may vary by clinic, the session generally begins by having the patient put on a gown, then lie on a table with bent legs, which helps to open up the colon. The therapist inserts a small instrument, called a speculum, into the patient’s rectum. Two tubes are connected, one for pumping in temperature-controlled water and one for receiving the outflow of water and waste. Through several passes, the water that is added helps to loosen and flush out the waste that has collected in the colon. The therapist also has the patient switch positions during the treatment and may gently massage the patient’s abdomen to help dislodge more waste matter.

During the process, a patient’s colon will be completely filled with water. While this can be a strange and uncomfortable feeling, and can lead to cramping, most do not report feeling any pain. Safeguards are also put in place to ensure that none of the waste is pushed back into a patient’s small intestine. The waste that is released can include impacted fecal matter, worms, parasites and dormant gases. Patients are often surprised by how much waste is flushed out in the initial session. Even so, it usually takes repeat sessions to flush out all of the impacted waste that has built up inside the colon over the years.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy Safe?

While proponents of colon hydrotherapy insist that it is a natural, safe method for eliminating toxic waste, the medical community does warn against some possible adverse effects. Some physicians claim that such an extensive irrigation can flush out essential electrolytes and good bacteria in the colon, along with the impacted waste. Proponents say that the benefits outweigh this possible consequence, and that people can use probiotic supplements to restore their good bacteria.
Also, both traditional and alternative practitioners stress the importance of ensuring that the colon hydrotherapy clinic uses sterile water and equipment during the procedure. Modern equipment is FDA-registered and includes built-in sanitizing equipment. You should also make sure that the therapist uses disposable, single-use rectal tubes and speculae.
Finding a Colon Hydrotherapist
When searching for a colonics therapist, it is important to find a qualified practitioner. The International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy provides examination for certification up to the instructor level in colon hydrotherapy.

Colon Hydrotherapy for Acne

Acne (also called acne vulgaris) is a skin condition caused by changes in the hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland. Acne is commonly referred to as pimples, spots, or zits. Acne affects more than 85% of teenagers, and frequently continues into adulthood. Colon hydrotherapy is a natural approach to treating acne that does not include medications or harsh chemicals, while helping you to have clearer and more radiant skin.

What Causes Acne?

Acne is caused by an increase in testosterone, a naturally occurring hormone present in both males and females. Testosterone stimulates the skin’s glands to enlarge, produce oil in, and plug the pores. Acne is common in adolescence, pregnancy, menopause, or other times when hormones are in flux.

Acne also is caused when the colon and kidney are not working properly. Our body eliminates waste through sweating, urinating, and bowel movements. When the colon and kidney fail to function, the waste material is attracted to the pores and blocks them, resulting in psoriasis and acne and other skin problems.

How Can Colon Hydrotherapy Help Relieve the Symptoms of Acne?

Colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective outpatient procedure that removes wastes from the large intestine without the use of medications. During a colon hydrotherapy session, a colon hydrotherapist introduces a small amount of filtered and temperature-regulated water into the colon using specially designed equipment manufactured following Food and Drug Administration guidelines for safety and cleanliness. The process is often repeated a few times during a session. When the water enters the colon, the waste is softened and loosened. The softened waste is then eliminated through the intestine’s natural smooth muscle contractions.

In this manner, colon hydrotherapy eliminates excess mucus, bacteria, and parasites. Practitioners and patients of colon hydrotherapy believe that this practice purifies the whole body. The removal of the toxins and poisons found in the colon improves the functioning of the colon and in this way helps the body to alleviate many health problems like fatigue, frequent headaches or stomachaches, and various skin conditions such as psoriasis and acne.

Why Use Colon Hydrotherapy for Acne?

Although acne is a common response to hormonal changes, many affected individuals report decreased self-esteem resulting from the physical appearance of acne and the long-term scarring that can occur when acne is untreated. Many individuals affected by acne will attempt to treat the skin lesions with over-the-counter medications or harsh prescription medications with many side effects. Colon hydrotherapists feel that acne is an indication of a colon that cannot absorb enough Vitamin A due to the presence of toxins, mucus, and other unhealthy products in the colon. Colon hydrotherapy offers an approach to acne that does not include use of medications or invasive medical procedures. Colon hydrotherapy has the added benefit of eliminating from the bowel the repository of accumulated waste material that could overwhelm the body and trigger a variety of systemic illnesses.

Support for the use of colon hydrotherapy includes many books, personal testimonials, and articles such as Morton Walker’s publication on the value of hydrotherapy in the Medical Journalist Report of Innovative Biologics in 2000. After crediting corn flake inventor J. H. Kellogg for popularizing the method around the world, he notes, “Enthusiastic expressions of approval for colon hydrotherapy are undeniable medical endorsements for this significant complementary treatment which removes metabolic waste from a person’s large bowel without applying toxic agents of any kind.”

History of Colon Hydrotherapy

Documentation of early colon hydrotherapy for treatment of medical conditions appears as early as ancient Egyptian texts. Although it decreased in popularity during the Middle Ages, colon hydrotherapy gained popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Physicians like Dr. Kellogg in the early 1900s promoted treatment of disease through bowel cleansing, diet, and exercise. In modern times, colon hydrotherapy is used in combination with good nutrition, proper fluid intake, and exercise to improve gastrointestinal health and general well-being.

Colonoscopy is a procedure used to see inside the colon and rectum. Colonoscopy can detect inflamed tissue, ulcers, and abnormal growths. The procedure is used to look for early signs of colorectal cancer and can help doctors diagnose unexplained changes in bowel habits, abdominal pain, bleeding from the anus, and weight loss.

-All solids must be emptied from the gastrointestinal tract by following a clear liquid diet for 1 to 3 days before colonoscopy.

-During colonoscopy, a sedative, and possibly pain medication, helps keep patients relaxed.

-A doctor can remove polyps and biopsy abnormal-looking tissues during colonoscopy.

-Driving is not permitted for 24 hours after colonoscopy to allow the sedative time to wear off.

How to Prepare for Colonoscopy

The doctor will provide written instructions for bowel prep. Generally, all solids must be emptied from the gastrointestinal tract. Patients should not drink beverages containing red or purple dye.

How is colonoscopy performed?
Examination of the Large Intestine
During colonoscopy, patients lie on their left side on an examination table. In most cases, a light sedative, and possibly pain medication, helps keep patients relaxed. Deeper sedation may be required in some cases. The doctor and medical staff monitor vital signs and attempt to make patients as comfortable as possible.

Removal of Polyps and Biopsy

A doctor can remove growths, called polyps, during colonoscopy and later test them in a laboratory for signs of cancer. Polyps are common in adults and are usually harmless. However, most colorectal cancer begins as a polyp, so removing polyps early is an effective way to prevent cancer.

The doctor can also take samples from abnormal-looking tissues during colonoscopy. The procedure, called a biopsy, allows the doctor to later look at the tissue with a microscope for signs of disease.
The doctor removes polyps and takes biopsy tissue using tiny tools passed through the scope.

At what age should routine colonoscopy begin?

Routine colonoscopy to look for early signs of cancer should begin at age 50 for most people—earlier if there is a family history of colorectal cancer, a personal history of inflammatory bowel disease, or other risk factors. The doctor can advise patients about how often to get a colonoscopy.

Colonoscopy usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. Cramping or bloating may occur during the first hour after the procedure. The sedative takes time to completely wear off. Full recovery is expected by the next day. Discharge instructions should be carefully read and followed.

With early detection colon cancer is curable in 90% of cases.

Dr. Leonard Smith Endorses Colon Hydrotherapy

Board Certified Gastrointestinal Surgeon Dr. Leonard Smith Endorses Colon Hydrotherapy

Leonard Smith is a prominent general, gastrointestinal and vascular surgeon, as well as an expert on nutrition and natural supplementation.

For the past 25 years, Dr. Smith has studied countless holistic medical programs, including those focusing on nutrition, exercise, chelation, stress management and the relevance of mental and spiritual attitude with regard to healing. Acknowledging the effectiveness of whole organic foods and nutritional supplementation, Dr. Smith strives to stay on the cutting edge of research and keep pace with the latest advances in the field of functional nutrition.

As a surgeon, Dr. Smith has experienced firsthand the problems associated with poor digestion and the surgical procedures that are often necessary as a result. Dr. Smith believes educating others is an essential part of his role as a doctor and has always incorporated teaching the basics of healthy digestion to his patients.

In addition to maintaining a private practice in general surgery and nutritional medicine, Dr. Smith’s work with cancer patients has driven him to pursue the purest ingredients available when choosing a product for his patients. His interest in formulating innovative products that are natural, safe and effective is a direct result of his commitment to cutting-edge research in functional nutrition, as well as his own wealth of knowledge about the human body.

Dr. Smith has been a member of the teaching staff and the clinical staff at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he received both his medical degree and Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He has lectured at the university on the topics of surgery and complementary medicine.

Dr. Smith completed his general and vascular surgery residency at the University of Miami and served as a surgical instructor and co-director of the surgical intensive care unit for two years afterward. Also a retired captain in the United States Air Force Reserve, Dr. Smith resides currently in Gainesville, Florida with his wife Jane.

Thirty years ago, Leonard Smith, M.D., of Gainsville, Florida graduated from medical school and eventually became board certified in general surgery by the American College of Surgery. For more than 25 years Dr. Smith has practiced as a specialist in gastrointestinal surgery. He has dealt with all types of colon difficulties, including operations for colon cancer, colon diverticulitis, appendicitis, hemorrhoids, and numbers of other internal organ problems.

“I am very well acquainted with the colon’s functions, and my true belief is that colon hydrotherapy is the perfect cleansing medium for preparing the patient for colonoscopy. It’s a much better way of getting the human colon ready for an operation than having a patient swallow a gallon of that presurgery solution known as ‘Colon-Go-Lytely.’ Instead, colon hydrotherapy allows the patient to avoid this solution’s noxious side effects of vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and other troubles,” Dr. Smith says.

“Moreover, seriously ill patients tend to be chronically constipated which results in generalized toxemia. It turns out that colon hydrotherapy is the gentlest and most effective treatment for a constipation problem. My recommendation for cancer patients is that they should undergo frequent colon hydrotherapy procedures to make sure the colon’s toxic burden is being kept at a minimum while their bodies are trying to heal,” affirms Dr. Smith. “While not a substitute for eating a high fiber diet, those cancer patients who take colon hydrotherapy often experience the elimination of their aches and pains, improvement of appetite, and they tolerate a tough healing process better.

“I also believe that normally healthy people will find it valuable to take colon hydrotherapy every couple of months in order to experience how well one feels when the colon is truly empty. It’s a fact that most people fail to fully evacuate the colon, something they don’t realize. People undergoing colon hydrotherapy on a prevention basis, are quite surprised at how much waste is removed by the procedure,” Dr. Smith says.

“Without reservation, my wish is to see it become an established procedure for many kinds of gastrointestinal problems. If medical centers, hospitals, and clinics installed colon hydrotherapy departments, they would find such departments just as efficacious for patients as their present treatment areas which are devoted to physiotherapy,” states Leonard Smith, MD “Such is my belief, and I do endorse this therapeutic program.”
